I'm a big fan of what SoI did on this record. It's nothing that hasn't been tried before, but they really "nailed it" in terms of presentation and execution of the ideas they were shooting for. Multiple moments throughout my first few listens had me quickly checking what track and timestamp it was so I could go back and hear it again, which speaks somewhat for itself.

To be fair you have to have a very high IQ to understand Shadow of Intent. The riffs are extremely technical and intricate, and without a solid grasp of music theory, most of the motifs will go right over a listener's head. There's also the band's sci-fi- inspired lyricism, which is deftly woven into their hyper-fast brand of sci-fi deathcore. Their albums take direct inspiration from the Halo series, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to appreciate the depth of the source material and the complexity of the storytelling, to realize they're not just brutal - they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence, people who dislike Shadow of Intent truly ARE idiots. Of course, for instance, they wouldn't appreciate the line "the inner machinations of their minds are an enigma" from The Horror Within, which is a subtle nod to the classic Nickelodeon show Spongebob Squarepants. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as the band's genius unfolds itself on their record players (and you DO need the vinyls to get the real experience, I might add). What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Shadow of Intent tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

everything i hate
How so, Xenophanes? I'd say the only thing that anyone could find grating about this is the super deep vocals, the rest is bot well-writen and musically diverse.
If you mean deathcore in general, than bands like The Juliet Massacre would probably be better to hate, lol

Ben is absurd. They're definitely an act I'll have to go see when they start touring around more.

I've been listening to The Instrumentals and thinking it was the new double-album. I'm not familiar with this band but the instrumentals are crunchy omnomonom. I'm guessing that's just old stuff compiled though.

About the vocals, remember the times when ppl were happy with the growls of say, Corpsegrinder or Ã…kerfeldt?
Αnd then came the tunnel throat technique and ruined everything ;x
