Then what the hell is Spiritual Healing supposed to be, lol

But yeah, it's kinda hard for me to call albums like Symbolic or TSoP death metal. They're more like extreme prog metal

proggy thrash with a large dm influence. they rly ride the line but its too slow to call deathrash even

I do agree that SH incorporated more prog elements; it seems as though Human is usually considered the band's first prog/tech death album, but SH should definitely be in the conversation as well

What I definitely DON'T agree with people on, is Scream Bloody Gore being the first true DM album when it has a lot of the same thrash elements that Seven Churches does

eh i like em both equally n they basically birthed as twins so

what bothers me is that neither saw it fit to continue the tradition

I've just always been surprised at how quickly musical innovations were happening at the time. If we're to believe Seven Churches was the first DM full-length, that means death metal was started just a few years after thrash did. Then you've got stuff like prog metal, which started around then as well... kinda wild that so many different sounds and scenes were being birthed at the same time

I've always really liked this album but it's been growing on me even more recently. It's just such a raw heavy record from them and it's cool to see them at their beginning in that sort of thrashy primitive stage... alot of ppl will act like that's a bad thing but it's really not. It's cool as hell to hear them like this.

Death absolutely dont have a bad album. I would say this and spiritual healing are the weakest (agree with the avgs)but still strong records forsure. Of course smok would be the one to say death have a bad album lol look at his ratings🤣🤷‍♂️
