Exceptionally well written review, very enjoyable read!

But two things:

1. In my opinion you dramatically overstate the importance of Zavala for AtD-I. He is great in his own right, but Rodriguez Lopez is the mastermind behind all of this.

2. Why this coparison to the bland guitar pop of Green Day and their generic mainstream social criticism? Definitely that's not the kind of anthems AtD-I ever aspired to...

Anyway, gonna check this out soon! And great to read an early review ;)

1. I give plenty of credit to the rest of the band. but Cedric has always been important conceptually imo

2. I just used that as a reference for a bandleader maturing and writing something anthemic that worked. IMO, inter alia is super super anthem-like, but just doesn't say enough in the process. it wasn't a stylistic comparison. there are probably more apt examples I'm sure but I went the basic route

This thread is hilarious, I cannot believe willfellmarsy logged back on and is just as dumb as always.

Not expecting much, tbh. Their last effort remains one of my top albums of all time.

Anyone comparing this to Refused's comeback album is ridiculous.

Refused didn't record an album that Refused fans would expect. It took chances and while it didn't turn out good, it was still a different path.

If someone convinced me that this album was a "lost album of bsides" I would believe it. It's exactly what ATDI fans would expect and yet it's not good enough because it's "boring and par for the course".

The only similarity is that they are two PostHardcore bands that called it quits at around the same time and both made comeback albums at around the same time

^that's actually an insightful point of comparison. one band tried to chart new territory on their comeback while the other went the fan-pleasing route. don't understand the impulse to shut down discussion on this topic

Whether I end up liking it or not, this was a fantastically written review. Seriously one of the best I've ever read on here. I like the singles, so here's hoping it won't be this year's Refused or American Football.

they both also released three full-lengths and disbanded at the top of their game, their paths to this point have actually been oddly similar. musically they obviously don't share too much though

Another thing is that none of both bands are from California, which makes me happy. especially refused who are from FUCKING SWEDEN.

I think it follows the same patter of RoC, but this is even more confusing. Still can't get why the trojan horse reference if none of the songs talks about that.

If Cedric chose the title of RoC he's a fucking genius, that term is only used in a military term, whick makes him even more awesome

" Still can't get why the trojan horse reference if none of the songs talks about that."

it's a snarky reference to relationship of command (album cover is a trojan horse), because in a sentence previous i mentioned how i was belabouring the comparisons to RoC. and it's an analogy. don't get what was so confusing about that tbh

(assuming you were talking about the review?)
