"Hoping this won't be boring like last years Katatonia album"

I found that to be one of their better albums actually

I'm really loving Devils Light. Tasty soloing, killer intelligible vocals and the few blast beats slap hard enough

EDIT: Plague Bird started while I was typing. Rules too, love the cleans

Yeah man, that's fine. Curious, are you a Katatonia fan? I find this record similar to most of their catalog imo

I'm curious, but do you dig the lyrics here king, or is it the musical vibe that you like? The lyrics feel so melodramatic and over the top that I can't take seriously with the dude's overbearing clean delivery. It just seems so so exaggerated and theatrical that I can't even begin to relate. Not trying to be mean, just curious, and are the attributes I just mentioned typical doom metal?

It's more so the musical aspects although I'm a sucker for some melodrama lol. Yeah most Doom has that not all though

I peeped some of the recent katatonia album because of their seemingly holy reputation and was not into it at all. Is their older stuff comparable?

Their first two albums sound nothing like their newer ones.

Borderline is so good, from ~3:50 I can't get it out of my head. Surprised many don't seem to dig this album, it's getting a pretty cold welcome on RYM too [edit: it's actually growing warmer]. I'm really in love with it personally. Very competent (though not mind-blowing) and tightly written. Would be fun if my aoty was a doom/doom related album for the third year in a row
