Lowering my rating for 22, A Million to a 4.5 just so this can have a higher rating. I like both, but this is experimental and has feels. The other is just bleep bloops and falsetto which is nice but yeah.

I did. He asked for more lumberjack musk cologne.

I don't think I could disagree more Sowing, but cheers to differing views.

What's your favorite track here Arcade? My top 3 are probably Keep Your Name, Little Bubble, and Death Spiral but they're all at least solid.
JWT, did you like 22, A Million? Just curious because I feel like they're pretty similar records.

I really like 22 a Million, my biggest gripe with this may just be the fact I've never been a huge Dirty Projectors fan and I've never been a big fan of the vocals. I could definitely see me liking this more, may have just not been in the right mood on my first 2 go arounds.

The vocals sound more human here which matches the content. I think that's why I like it more.

Eh. This is good yeah, interesting production and pretty exceptional song-writing, but the 22, A Million comparisons are unavoidable; It almost feels like plagirism. For me, the Bon Iver record is by far the better album- Longstreth topically feels at a drought here, every single line in mourning and/or dismissive of his ex. The "What I want from art is truth / What you want is fame" line is parricularly guilty of this. It just kinda leaves a bad taste in my mouth. 22, A Million IS cryptic and impenetrable, often feels and sounds alienating, but manages to feel warm and inviting through out, whereas this does not.

death spiral and work together are v annoying

Nah, pretty great tracks. Little Bubble is still the best thing here, though.

I dunno maybe I've just spent too much of my life depressed and bitter towards women, but to me this is the more inviting album. BI has some really warm moments too but I just never connected with it on a personal level despite it being a supremely composed musical piece. They're both amazing records; to me this is the more relatable piece and 22, A Million is the better objective composition.

Does anything on here sound like Stillness Is the Move?
|

Yeah, the warmth of these albums is relative. You're totally right rho; This is probably a relatable album depending on personal experience haha

Nah, he sings solo on pretty much every track so don't expect any harmonies. Also no song is as catchy or written with as much pop acuity as that one.

The girls don't sing on this at all? But all of the songs the guy leads in this band are sooooo boring and generic : (

The girls are no longer in the band since the breakup

Also FWIW I can picture a good handful of these tracks being on The 20/20 Experience which I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
Actually who am I kidding, it's a wonderful thing.

Don't worry, we'll have about 12 more AOTY contenders with 4.5's and higher from Sowing in the next couple weeks..... /s

The girls and their pretty harmonies were the only thing about his band that made them interesting lol
