the music here is most definitely the biggest problem, i've just noticed a trend in which ballou tends to helm the production of the worst try-hard "extreme" albums of the past few years that sound shallow and tame and terrible
his production techniques are usually all wrong for the styles of music he produces

Well code orange has been produced by ballou exclusively since like 2012 so

Honestly what is the appeal to this

People like music where the parts you walk around menacingly to and the parts you throw down to are neatly arranged.

"Honestly what is the appeal to this"
I could say the same about your garbage ass dig, but I won't, because I'm not fuckin retarded

Wow, man. You're getting really mad about this.

Will this band ever tap their potential?
Or was I wrong for thinking they ever had any?

They had plenty of potential, just listen to Love Is Love, this album is pretty average in just about every way.

Album is pretty rad

Still miss the shit out of Cycles era Code Orange (kids). Like this better than I Am King; though that isn't saying much.

Same here. Cycles, Love is Love and the full of hell split are easily their best shit. I think I Am King is better than this but not by much

Despite what others have said, I'll be honest: I found this album to be pretty damn good.

I agree. Really don't understand the collective hate around this band.

I think it's just that they take themselves so seriously, and they aren't really good enough to back that up. They're all competent musicians, they're just so boring sounding to me.

They seriously have this massive chip on their shoulder and when they put out stuff like this, it makes them look slightly silly. They're one of those bands that could have been really inspired and were headed in the right direction, but they totally went back the other way because they wanted to be obvious. They seem to want so much to be dark and brutal, but instead of doing so creatively like a Deathspell Omega, they traveled the path of least resistance musically to get there. Like, these songs are so easy to write.
Adolf, I don't blame you. Their stuff on Love is Love, Cycles, and the Full of Hell split might sound better to you.

The album has its moments, but I got the feeling they are trying too hard to be a "badass" band. Props for Ballou though, for bringing young bands up to the front but there's gotta be more to it. Anyone can tune down a guitar, hit some pedals and play slow.

Seems like this isn't worth the listen. May listen for the objectivity boost.

I don't really care how the band advertises itself, I just like the music. Also I think Cycles is their weakest, I dig their somewhat original take on beatdown hardcore and the grungy tracks are pretty cool too. Even if this isn't someone's favorite thing I don't see how it's terrible. There aren't many bands that sound like them right now.
