It's on songs like the 2nd track where the end could have been cut by 2 minutes because it just turns into Meshuggah worship. I really like the song Gratitude where the heaviness is contrasted by the melodic parts, but the rest of the songs just have too much guitar farting going on for me lol.

Still doesn't really sound like meshuggah. They work in 4/4 for the most part while Car Bomb is constantly changing the time and feel. Also car bomb throws in much more melody/harmony/overall songiness into their tunes. The influence is definitely there, but it's kind of annoying to hear people call them a rip off when they clearly are not. There are plenty of other bands more directly ripping off Meshuggah in a far less interesting way.

I get you Zack. In no way do I think they are just ripping off from Meshuggah, but the sections that I consider to be either mundane or redundant are the Meshuggah-esque parts that could have been shortened or cut out completely. I do think this band is pretty unique and I did try to like this, but the parts I disliked simply outweighed the good.

I have listened to 3 songs on this: From the Dust of This Planet, Lights Out, and The Opressor and they all sound almost identical save for The Oppressor which randomly throws in a nice clean part only to abruptly go back to sounding exactly the other 2 songs. I'm not hearing any technicality unless we consider chugging rhythmically to what I can only assume are Meshuggah b-sides as technical.

maybe I listened to the wrong songs, but that's just my opinion based on what songs I heard

There are always going to be comparisons to Meshuggah, being a techy rhythmic band tuned kind of low. However, there is a lot going on beyond odd-timed chugging. The production probably doesn't help with this as it's very crisp. I'd say they're in a similar boat to a band like Frontierer where the surface similarities really work against them but once you dive in a little deeper they're actually worlds apart.

What I like about this release is that it is super precise but doesn't feel robotic. It's also got the more otherworldly quality that was evident on Centralia and subsquently lost on w^w^^w^w.

This rules, band was really awesome last night. And dang, the guest vocals on Sets are Frank Mullen from Suffocation.
