Going to pick up a copy of this on Friday, having to stream it off that website every day is doing my nut

Yeah those NPR streams are nice (they have great selections) but not a terribly convenient way to listen. I usually only use them for my most anticipated stuff.

Would this be the worst place to start with these guys?

Totally dependant on your taste - do you lean more electronic/jazzy or more americana/country soul?
|
| |
I enjoy both but generally I prefer to hear an artist's progression so I start chronologically. However with this thick of a discog I know that it might take me a long time to make it this far.

If you reduced their discog to five albums then investigate (chronological): 'How I Quit Smoking', 'Nixon', 'Is a Woman', 'Mr M' and this.
That covers most of their styles and all those albums I rate at least a 4/5.
I think you're safe starting here but if you don't warm to this I wouldn't say that means you won't enjoy any of the rest of their stuff as it is quite different.

I'm excited to hear this now that it's officially out. Band are slowburners from what I've heard so far but they have a certain charm.

I'm going to put up a Lambchop top 25 songs (with descriptions) in a bit
It'll work as a good introduction into the band

lambchop's music is so inoffensive... I like it, but at this point in my life, music needs at least a little edge, be at least a little dangerous, have bite. Lambchop's subtelties are very beautiful, but end up feeling kind of safe, innocuous even.

Cool thanks Doof.

rabid - the music might be generally inoffensive but the lyrics have a lot of bite for me
I definitely don't see the band as 'safe' - too strange for that
