Might 5 this if it sticks as my AOTY. I can't picture how it could be better than what it is. That said, there's sort of a ceiling to this style and how the band's established its sound, so I hesitate because there's not really anything breakthrough about it like most albums I 5.

the thing is, no one makes music like Saor. Saor IS breakthrough imo. i will no doubt be 5ing their entire discog in the coming year should i continue to listen to the band as religiously as i do.
unless of course there is some scottish band making scottish metal that sounds as good, but i am highly doubtful this is the case.

@cryptologous yeah Saor's pretty unique but this album in particular isn't a huge step forward. it's a refinement of the sound on Roots/Aura, and a stellar example of whatever genre(s) it is.

I preferred Aura to this one so far

Same here, but this is still a monumental listen.

well there's Askival, which apparently Andrew Marshall was in before doing Arsaidh (it has one album). But other than Askival, Forefather, Skyclad, Cnoc An Tursa, and Darkest Era there don't seem to be many significant folk metal bands from the UK in the last 15 years (just going by RYM).

It's still Andy's work. His sound is pretty unique that's true.

i don't know if i'd go so far as to say 'no one makes music like saor'
honestly i got into saor because they sounded like scottish panopticon

Well yeah it's not groundbreaking like Summoning was but it's still a unique sound in the new Black Metal sounds.

The past 2 albums had something special and unique to them. Not getting the same feeling with this but its still very solid
