"I didn't know metal could be so gay."
the 80s called, they want to know what the fuck you're talking about

Yeah this is really great. Fuck the cover and reasoning for it though

I don't even think it was an attention grab. Just misguided tastelessness.

Clean guitars are definitely the best thing here. Tone is perfect, melodies are sweet.

"I sincerely hope people wouldn't actually take the cover or the bandcamp page philosophy into account when rating the music but who knows. "
Don't care to do more than skim that paragraph about the album/don't care about the lulzy hyper dsbm album art. Riffs jam, melodies jam, album jams. m/
And I totally forgot I wrote that description for Ethereal Shroud heheh.

to each their own man
gonna have to agree with ovdeath though, this is more enjoyable than deafheaven. I need to give roads to Judah a stab, but sunbather and new bermuda didn't do much for me

Judah is less dynamic with more blasting and littler shoegazing. It doesn't try to be as fancy as their later albums. I like it the mostest.

I'd say this is pretty un-fancy as well. The progressions and transitions are fairly simple/straightforward.
I'm surprised people like the first track so much, it's my least favorite, including Shoreless. Last two are best.
|

Devour is probably my favorite track so far, but they're otherwise all about equal to me

I really love how shoreless builds into devour
|
| |
I almost get an agalloch vibe from the clean intro to devour

regarding the discussion about like, if the band's ideology and/or aesthetics should affect one's rating of the album-
I've seen it happen before pretty often, a shitton of people were turned off from Liturgy with the whole transcendental black metal manifesto which was indeed pretty stupid but it didn't bother me enough, or at all to not listen to the music (although I still understand why people would criticize them sonically) + I am still a hundred percent convinced with Deafheaven had adopted standard black metal visual aesthetics, and if George Clarke didn't perform those homoerotic dances he does live, a lot 'trve' (jesus fucking Christ) black metal fans would've not given it such negative reception.
Regardless if one wants to stay away from those bands for the reasons mentioned above, that's absolutely fine in my opinion. I think I'm gonna stay away from this band I mean the whole dsbm thing is pretty fucking dumb in my opinion and the justification of the cover is disgusting, listening to the album, my perception and rating of it would be probably stained by those factors.
