ill try to give you the constructive advice you see desperately seek:

-Your introduction is very brief, but not in the good way. Its alright to have the stock introduction new reviewers have, but you need to articulate and expand vocabulary to be richer to make up for your lack of content. That way, people get the message easier and it looks better than "well usually its bad, but these guys didnt make it bad"

- The second sentence following in the second paragraph can easily be merged into the third sentence, as you can easily explain that it deviates from their signature sound and then go into detail of how they do so with an example of sorts. Instead your repeat "this is a new sound" three different times in the third sentence.

-Your third paragraph reads very fanboyish because of the very generic "its heavy = good" statements, explain how the "grudgy crunching guitar" captures the audience or provides substance ot the track instead of saying "well it has guitars so its good!"

-Im kind of mixed on the general explanation of the sound, since you do explain how a lot of the album has infectious and groovy basslines and then immediately follow by an example about Punchline and describing a completely DIFFERENT sound. its very unfocused and doesnt flow well.

-Explain to me what "Chevelle-esque tendencies" are. As a reader, especially one who has never listened to chevelle outside of a few songs, this makes no sense to me and it expects the reader to have familiarity with Chevelle when they arent the kind of band where you can actually MAKE these kind of sentences like say... Red Hot Chili peppers.

-The "two sided coin" metaphor in relation to "straight up heavy moments" doesnt really fit in. it suggests that the softer tracks are detrimental to the overall quality of the album.

-The overall tone, especially prelevant in your final paragraph, show off this fanboyish vibe because of how much emphasis you put into HOW AMAZING THIS IS GUISE without having much to show for it. many people take the notion of a "5/5" or a "classic" very seriously so they expect the review to be able to back it up. You could literally slap a 3-4.5 on this review and the effect would be the same beause theres a disconnect from the kind of articulation that makes this SOUND like a perfect album to the reader. You have nothing to entice them to check it out.

Thats all I have to say i suppose.

Correct. Nobody is saying you have to adhere to any and all advice tossed your way, but you're doing a masterful job of making yourself appear both insufferable and holier-than-thou.

Look I'm not even angry about any of this. What bugs me is that all these people want me to write like they write. And everyone has a different way of expressing their feelings on paper. So what makes their opinions about how I write any more right than mine?

Opinions can't be right, but people can be thick headed.

"So what makes their opinions about how I write any more right than mine?"

because theres a standard of quality people expect here, we all have different writing styles but we all try our best to make sure our reviews arent weak and underutilized fanboy pieces. like this review reads as in m,y eyes.

Hey clover is the ONLY one who has actually given me advice on how to write the review. That said, saying I'm holier than thou is quite confusing since all people are doing on here is telling me that the way they write is better.

Not going to waste my time anymore. Continue writing mediocre reviews while alienating the only people who might care about reading them! 👍

Look, I think it's a 5/5. My review implies that you should give it a listen and form your own opinion.

The "weak" songs I see so far on this album are Enemies and Last Days.

the only thing that would entice me to listen to this from your review is that its a 5/5

actually reading your review tells me to steer clear and wait for someone else to write a different review.

"My review implies that you should give it a listen and form your own opinion."

What?

Reviews are meant for the purpose of examining the objective components of an album and rendering your own viewpoint on how they come together.

I dig the album, but damn, calm down dude.

ok im curious as to why you actually wrote this if youre disagreeing with the very sole element that makes a review a... review. did you just want to see yourself type out some words?

It's just funny to me. The album has a 4.3 rating so clearly A LOT of people agree that it's an amazing album. In no way is that "fanboy."
