Park, I do hear what you're saying. Do I wish there was a song here that sounded like Without God? Of course but those days are long gone.

On my first spin atm. So far I'm disappointed. I feel like DeK had ten times the emotion put into it. I remember having loved it from the first seconds onward.

Dead End Kings is the best album ever though so it's kinda unfair to compare.

band continues to be frustratingly consistent, to the point where I want to dock points from this purely because it's exactly as good as I was expecting it to be

Damn...tough crowd? I found the album fantastic. I guess bands need to incorporate Peruvian pan flute music in order to impress you guys.

I heard it 2 times and I can already say it is a solid 4 for me. I'll spin it more times today and probably give it the 4 or who knows, maybe ends in a 4.5. The album keeps the Katatonia feeling and adds some new things in it, you can say is kind of conservative in some aspects but that doesn't mean it is bad or boring, at least for me.

One of the best Katatonia opening tracks along with Forsaker and I Break.

After the first few listens, I can safely say it's a stronger album than DEK, with a greater variety of melodies and bolder song writing. Takeover is a brilliant opening track, too. It almost goes without saying at this point that Jonas puts in another great performance (when is this dude going to get the global recognition he deserves?), especially on tracks like Pale Flag (an instant favourite, almost sounds like Grails to begin with) and Residual.

Favourite tracks as of now: Takeover, Pale Flag, Residual, The night subscriber (awesome outro). I don't know if it's the new personnel, but they definitely sound fesher on this album, with more ideas and dynamics.

Solid first comment that I completely agree with.

Forsaker is such a great opener, but my favorite opening in a Katatonia album has to be the first minute of For My Demons.

Anyway my faves here right now are Serein, Shifts, The Night Subscriber and Passer. Last Song Before The Fade isn't joking either.

Funny you mention that, I thought of including that track too, might have been the first Katatonia song I ever heard.

Someone's gotta wave the Tonight's Decision flag, it's pretty neglected around here.
