what sucked me in was the atmosphere and the cinematography although I also love the dialogue

The atmosphere was fucking amazing, I haven't rewatched it since the initial time because I fucking hated the Yellow King reveal with a passion but can't deny that the buildup in every other episode was flawlessly done

I was extremely let down by all of the Yellow King stuff being window dressing since I got so obsessed with theories, but when I stepped back and watched it again being more invested in the characters instead, I loved it
plus i do love the cinematography of that weird maze or w/e it is that the showdown takes place in (cant remember exactly haven't rewatched the finale yet)

once again it's all very well filmed and shot and acted and all that, but the writing in the last episode (bar that lovely last scene with the two of them) just went down the toilet
you know all that superb buildup to making the Yellow King this almost inhumanly creepy force of nature? yeah nah forget that he's the most generic hillbilly hick murderer in existence, look he even fucks his mother guys are we scaring them yet

the thing is you can't actually ever show anything like that if you go for the lovecraftian route, the instant you show it on screen it's ruined. What the finale really needed was something like the mid-season one had, where they raided that creepy-ass farm and got closer than ever but never got complete answers. Finale tried to answer all the questions at once and botched the fuq out of it
