Unimagine is pretty much perfect so I disagree with that. Even tho ITM does rule pretty hard.

Unimagine is really good but I wouldn't call it near perfect. Weight is pretty bad. Still, a really good album and I was fine with them going in that direction.

And Ground Dweller is the only album I'd use to argue the claim that HLH is better than ITM.

Besides, HLH loses all credibility with this album. I just don't see how you can write A Fire On A Hill and then write a whole album of bland radio rock with some forced heaviness thrown in because it's apparently the cool thing to do.

Unimagine is great, it's just held back by forgetful tracks such as Weight, The House You Built and Fountainhead.

Unimagine has some wonderful, wonderful songs. Developments, Shapeshifters, Wisteria, Oceandust, A Tale of Outer Suburbia, A Fire On a Hill, and Introduced Species (preferably the Reimagine version) are, more or less, brilliant. I do see how the album feels meh as a whole though. I can't describe it, but yeah.

I'd probably say HLH was better than ITM, or at least virtually even, until this album.

^and I agree with those three being the only duds. The latter two aren't even bad, but they force the album to drag

Well when you lose the keyboardist you gotta try to make up for it somewhere, and they did that with the extra heaviness and bass. Which worked pretty well, not sure how that takes away all their credibility.

The Reimagine version of Introduced Species is absolutely wonderful.

The reason I find this album so polarising for people is because it really comes down to what you want from them. Now, HLH have been my favourite band for years and I will always love them and their music. I understand completely that the formula they use throughout this album is tiresome but besides the fact the songs are all so predictable, I just find it so fun.

The people that are disliking this album are, I find, people that want HLH to be a band that experiments or at least doesn't just follow a formula. Nothing wrong with this! I'd love for them to do some experimenting but they know what they want to do and that is put out fun rock songs with hints of intelligent song writing.

I'll probably have offended someone, and obviously this is a generalisation but just a few things I've noticed when reading people's opinions (not only on here but elsewhere).

But seriously, they close with a fire on a hill on unimagine and then bloodlines here? damnnnnn...

I don't dislike this because I want HLH to experiment, I dislike it because I don't like Hands Like Houses sounds good trying to be a formulaic radio rock band.

Introduced Species was always my least track on Unimagine because it felt the most generic and boring and lifeless, and I feel like that's the song most similar to everything on Dissonants.

The first time I heard this album I was pretty disappointed but after a few listens it really grew on me. The only real thing I have a problem with are the lack of formula change ups. I think if you look beyond the formula, the songs are pretty and fun. Obviously everyone has different things they look for but I thought the songs that were softer and more along the alternative route were really good (from Division Symbols all the way through to Motion Sickness). Except for Perspectives, I thought the first five songs were really strong too.
