imo floridada and golden gal are the supernatural/applesauce of the album in that they stick out as a lot better than everything else around it, and I'd put them in the top 20 anco songs as well

Well 'Applesauce' is a top 5 AnCo song for me but none of the other three would make my top 20. Golden Gal is great though, prob top 40 or so

The run of tracks 7-10 is so empty. I thought they wanted to remove the drone elements.

Good review doofus. I like the middle of the album most, from Burglars to Golden Gal. It grew on me a bit after an underwhelming first listen. Lots of the songs are a bit too samey. I wish they changed the pace up a bit more. Golden Gal is the highlight for me.

Hard to pin point what it is, but this is one of the most annoying albums I've heard in a while.

I very much enjoyed reading your review of the album. So firstly, thank you for that.
Has anyone listened to the interview with Avey and Panda about the way this was recorded
(http://www.npr.org/2016/02/14/466467296/animal-collective-walks-in-the-beach-boys-footsteps-literally)?
I feel it added a lot to my appreciation of the album.
There are a few reasons I feel this album deserves higher than a 3.0:
- The Collective is still pushing their creativity with a utilitarian approach to this record.
- As you mentioned, there is plenty of replay value here. I feel engaged by every track.
- They have still created a completely unique piece of work.
The major con for me, as you mentioned: "the first AnCo album where the unique songwriting personalities of Avey Tare and Panda Bear have gone largely AWOL." TND brought this up as well and I really miss the moments when Avey is screaming at/whispering to me. All the vocals are pretty tempered.

i mean, farting into a microphone is a creative output but that doesn't mean its good.

im not comparing this to farting in a microphone by any means, i just mean that "trying something new" or "artistic" doesn't equal good.

oh yeah, i feel that
I just feel sometimes people are expecting these guys to drop another MPP or something, and compared to CHz, this is a very concise pop record that isn't exactly them changing things up, but sorta going with the flow. There's some low points, but I think it's quite consistent and it's not even that long when comparing it to their past few records.
