"My theory is if you took the four best songs on any of his albums (maybe not 808) and expanded the rest of the tracklist with that quality then they'd justify all the hype and high ratings.
Yeezus is a case in point, Black Skinhead/Blood on the Leaves/New Slaves and the final minute or so of I Am God spread across the whole album would have been a 4.5/5."
for everything except drop out, i actually agree with the sentiment behind this, though maybe more than four. kanye's always someone i check out because i know there's going to be that "x" or so tracks that i fuckin' love so i love the record for that, but he definitely doesn't maintain quality evenly.
it's most notable with this however, because it's so relatively thematically sparse, so the duds of the album really do feel like something that can just be thrown away because they're not a part of some larger picture.

I thought that Bound 2 was the prefect closer on Yeezus.
On Sight was also the prefect opener.
There's a lot of quality in that album, mainly in the production. It pains me to see it slighted just cus Ye spits some bullshit.

i like yeezus a lot (probably more than this) but i'm in it, guilt trip, send it up and arguably like hold my liquor/i am a god aren't on the same level as the remainder and i'd say that's the general consensus

The beat for I'm In It is just awesome. I'm biased tho, my boi Evian Christ did it.
|
| |
I'm In It was always my favorite track from the first spin, agreed Evian influence is fantastic. Shame that he kind of went stale to me after his earlier work.

True, his Waterfall EP was a bit of a letdown for me. Still, a decent release.

dir: you stated it as your opinion and then reinforced it by saying it was general consensus, not just that it was the opinion of other but not you.

As everyday passes, I'm increasingly loving this.
Everything to do with this is an absolute mess, but for some reason I find that endearing...

Send It Up is just fucking awful
Especially the ending part
|

I have no intention of listening to this but that cover is fucking atrocious

Here's my rating after some consideration. Plenty of epic moments but all are too short lived. Not a finished album if you ask me.
