Their best since Endgame, which makes it the best album they've put out this decade.

Kiko Loureiro's solos are pretty nice.

Dystopia, Fatal Illusion and Conquer... Or Die are all 5/5, while The Threat Is Real and Poisonous Shadows beeing 4/5 the rest are mediocre 3/5 with The Emperor beeing 2/5 (feels like something out of Super Collider). But the Album delivery makes for these songs and the energy of the album is great too. The guitars are heavy, loud, solos are insane with power metal feeling, vocals are a bit meh as Dave's voice is Autotuned and his singing doesnt deliver any energy whatsoever. But the Album is very enjoyable to listen to and as a Megadeth fan you are up for a treatment listening to this classic.

Eh I'm in between, this is in no way a classic but isn't just rehashes like others have suggested.

Their best effort since Endgame. Some guitarwork here is pretty damn good.

I agree with what seems to be the general consensus. It's their best since Endgame (but not as good), but it definitely doesn't stand up to the classics. I can't really tell any difference between the Lamb of God drummer and the boring shit the previous drummer phoned in on the previous few albums.

I just can't fathom why anyone would come back to this when they've done literally the same songs before but better.

Kiko has def gave Dave a kick up the arse.

Still, this is probably only slightly better than 13 tbh.

Eh I think life would be boring if all I did was watch The Godfather and other "classic" movies all the time. Sure, something like this may not be a go to record to listen to but it's something different and I enjoy it for what it is. I can see myself randomly popping this on in the future.

While this is better then SC and 13 I don't think anyone is going to be talking about this album in 6 months.

I mean, that's 95% of records that come out annually, only a select few special records are remembered after a year let alone to stand the test of time.

It doesn't have to be a classic, it's just that this is inferior to like half of the thrash albums I listened to last year.

I mean Overkill and Testaments new records are still relevant to me.

Still need to give this album a good couple of listens.

Yeah, Overkill and Testament are examples of classic thrash bands still releasing albums there aren't just adequate rehashes of old works. They still try to remain fresh and put as much effort into their new albums as they did in the 80s.

Looks like the A.V. Club gave this a D because the reviewer does not like Dave's politics.
