It was a 4.1 on Friday. Now it's a 4.3... It didn't skyrocket That much...

More of a eulogy than a review, but wow that's a wonderful eulogy.

I don't think it's pity points or anything either, the context changes how you interpret it and thus likely your rating.

yeah this is a pretty incredible swan song in the grand scheme of his career which is saying a lot. how are you supposed to end a career like Bowie's with a single release?

If he'd have left it on The Next Day, as much as I like that album, it would've been slightly underwhelming.

yeah this is a testament to his experimentalism and is much more fitting for the end of his life/career, while The Next Day is a tad bland imo

I wouldn't say The Next Day was bland it just came across as a sampler platter with a bit of everything piled on the plate. A Bowie album to edit down into a playlist while Blackstar is a unified statement

idk man, I was never a bowie fan, but this album really hit in a place no other album has for me before. this is bowie staring death in the face, this is him accepting the future, this is him accepting whatever is next. I'm honestly kinda floored the more and more I think about it.

I love Bowie, but let's not let his death over-inflate ratings.
