They do say Indiana once in Dani California, but look at the title: It's not Dani "Indiana"! And when in Mary Jane's Last Dance does Tom Petty say California? They obviously have their own concept.

I don't follow any of your logic, though I agree with the conclusions...

A more accurate description would be that Mary Jane's Last Dance is about a man singing of the lost love of his life.
Dani California is a Bonny-&-Clyde-esque story told from the perspective of "Clyde."

The only song on here I think sounds like a ripoff is Animal Bar, but not many people notice. It sounds just like that overplayed song The Middle by Jimmy Eat World. Just like it.This Message Edited On 12.03.06

Make you feel better sounds a bit like the "Friends" theme song.

They have 9 studio albums Steerpike, and the first four are automatically skipped by everyone. Youre really gonna count the previous 4 from BSSM as quality albums? Its just rap and raw funk, that is really bad. The only good song from the previous 4 was 'Higher Ground', and it was a cover of Stevie Wonder. There are reasons why BSSM was their breakout album.
Heres a decent analysis. Not biased.
Shortly after its release, the originality of the song was questioned [4] in the Dan Gaffney Morning Show of Delaware based radio station WGMD 92.7. The presenters alleged that the Chili Peppers had plagiarized Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' 1993 hit "Mary Jane's Last Dance". To demonstrate, they presented audio snippets of both songs, both side by side and simultaneously (i.e. on top of each other) several times. (The two songs are compared here [1].) They stated that the chord progression, key, tempo, and the lyrical theme of the songs (both produced by Rick Rubin) showed "startling similarities" and urged listeners to "decide for themselves".
Some have dismissed this as a publicity stunt by the DJs. Posters on the official Chili Peppers message board have pointed out that they sped up "Mary Jane's Last Dance" to more closely match the tempo of Dani California. It's also been pointed out that while the first 8 bars of both songs sound similar, the chords are not exactly the same, with "Mary Jane's Last Dance" being "Am, G, D, Am" and "Dani California" being "Am, G, Dm, Am". University of Chicago musicologist Travis Jackson said the songs' chord progressions were similar, but were a "pretty standard groove" in music and not necessarily evidence of copying.[5] It should also be noted that the accused chord progression is used for the majority of the first verse, though remains silent in the two subsequent verses.
Spin magazine readers voted in a June 2006 poll on the similarities of the songs: "We asked if you thought the Chili Peppers ripped off Tom Petty for their new single. The outcome might surprise you. The votes are in! As of press time, 49 percent of you felt the Chili Peppers' "Dani California" bites "certain musical elements" from Tom Petty's 1993 hit, "Mary Jane's Last Dance," while 46 percent said "Dani" was totally original. An on-the-fence five percent of readers weren't quite sure." Spin also posted an audio comparison of the two tracks. [6]

Try comparing Desecration Smile with Innocent by Fuel, and Wet Sand with Over The Hills And Far Away by Zeppelin. Its blatant.

I never said they were good albums, just that they had them.

I don't even give a shit if they plagerized it (which I don't really think, anyways) I still like the cd.

lol, RS085 plagarized when trying to convince people that Dani California is plagarized.
Irony is awesome.

Just because songs sound similar doesn't mean that they are ripped off. Does it take a rocket scientist to realize that?
|
| |
readymade and mountain song, add that to the list of ripoffs.

So the idea that the Chili Peppers are using grooves and beats that have been common in rock since the days of the Delta blues is... you know, totally unbelievable?

thats not what im sayin jackass, you only tend to read part of what i write, maybe only because you either want to or thats all you understand. the particular songs i talked about can be mistaken for others, ive already had a number of people comment on them. understand? youre talking about genres, im talking about one song ripping off another, because its completely and blatantly sounds the same. read it over a few more times, or 8.

face it, the album is a letdown, its not chili peppers, at least not to me, or a number of people i know. chad smiths pocket drumming sucks, frusciantes guitar playing is overrated and he never plays outside the box, the bass and lytrics are probably the part that shines the most on the album. this album brings nothing new to the table. its full of mediocrity.
