Not a fan of the sound of that one, but lyrically it's pretty creative.

"these guys should go full on meoldeath tbh"

first off that spelling makes me lol for some reason

and they were part of that wave of metalcore bands that was directly inspired by melodeath so i mean they've kinda distanced themselves from that sound

i like this album way more than i should. I find it way easier to stomach driving down the highway and played excessively loud, and you just have to roll with the cheese.

writing on the wall is still wut though.

Bottom Feeder is pretty fuckin good.. definitely sounds like slipknot though. Opening riff to The Sound of Violence reeks of Suicide Season BMTH, and I never thought I'd say a band would be derivative of BMTH... and yeah Vice Grip sounds like Bon Jovi...

This album is a grower, no doubt. For the most parts, Parkway Drive succeeds with experimenting with their sound.

But, in all honesty, who is not surprised that this album turned out to be Parkway Drive experimenting more than ever with their sound, given how "Atlas" diversified itself from the band's previous outings?

Btw, well written review. Not agreeing with it though.

This album is amazing.

It's possible that I'm just a bit of a fanboy, but I enjoyed this album a lot more than I enjoyed the most recent In Hearts Wake. I didn't care for every song on this album but, by in large, I dig the brutality and McCall's charismatic vocal delivery. He's still got the best scream in the genre imo.

Yeah, Winston's weird snarly pseudo cleans don't do much for me.

"Surprised at that average rating, thought it would easily be below a 3"

I am surprised to see Atlas having their 2nd best rating, equal to Horizons (an insane thing to see). I though even Deep Blue was better than Atlas.

they aren't bad on the closer but writing on the wall is cringe, they contrast so awkwardly with the music

I'm a fangirl for Parkway hands down. I agree with the disappointing intro which is unfortunate since it seems like they are following suite and opening with the same two songs for their tour.

This isn't as bad as I was expecting. Still their worst though.

Nah, it isn't terrible. I just expect better from them. This is thier first real misstep, IMO.

Create an account just to post that? The only song on hear that I would add to my Parkway Drive playlist would be Vicious. Maybe Sound of Violence.

yeah I agree with Coma, Sound of Violence has that Suicide Season-esque riff that goes hard.

I disagree but good review and i see where you're coming from. I think it's their best album since the first couple of albums. Second half gets a little boring (minus the last track) but it depends the mood I'm in.

It's not SHIT but I found a lot of the songs on here to be waaaay too cheesy for my taste. It's disappointing because I think the rest of their albums are at least solid. And good lord people weren't exaggerating the King 810-similarities on Writings on the Wall, if you told me there was a feature I wouldn't have questioned it.

So while I appreciate that they tried going in a different direction, the stuff they've come up with is just boring, lame and sometimes even embarrassing. Even the best songs on this are just okay. But I do agree with what the guys said on their Twitch live stream, there's only so much you can do with the basic metalcore formula..like how many times can they write a chugga chugga pause chugga chugga etc. type breakdown.
