speaking of Duran Duran, didn't they just come out with a new album last week?

I honestly don't mind the song at all. It's a welcome change and prevents the album from sounding stagnant and monotonous.

Don't know much about this band. Is this a good place to start?

I'd say Acts 1 or 2 would be better for ya man

Nah. Not the best place to start. I say violet EP on the color spectrum

Despite my lowish rating, "The Line" is still the best b-side to Carrie & Lowell

King of Swords is decent. If All Goes Well is better imo

If All Goes Well is top three worst Dear Hunter songs ever tbh

King of Swords is kinda fun, gotta admit.
This is the worst act of all, though. I'd say it's probably the worst TDH record ever. I feel like I truly like only what is a reminiscent of his old work (the bitter suite, A Night... and Wait, which sounds like a Migrant b-side), the rest doesn't give me much. I should wait to read the lyrics though, they were incredible on the first three acts.

i don't quite understand how anyone could praise King of Swords and hate If All Goes Well. Both are good songs but I don't see the problem with it at all

@lunaticsoul I agree for the most part except i'd say this still edges out Migrant by a longshot.
And am I the only person that loves "Ouroboros"? It seems to get a lot of hate.

Ouroborous is terrific

Glad someone agrees. The last two minutes of that track might be my favorite part of the album

If All Goes Well is great, nothing wrong with it. Especially liking the last 2 minutes of that song.
That melancholic part at the end of Ouroborous is great, especially if you follow the story. I think it works well as a moody subtle finisher to this chapter and it shows that these sort of songs don't necessarily have to end in a grandiose epic manner to leave an impression.

In paragraph 3, "...but Act IV seems to be one of the densest and most intricately layered of his works to date. " I think should be changed to:
...but Act IV seems to be one of the most dense and intricately layered of his works to date.
Just my opinion. Also, fantastic review. You've officially sold me that I really really cannot listen to this later, but now.

I feel like I'm the only one a bit disappointed with Ouroboros. I like it, I just feel like it doesn't fit that well as an ending.

No I'm with you. It's a great song, but a with a momentous album like this, I feel it is a little lackluster.

This is actually a lot less accessible than their previous releases I think. I find the flow of the album beautiful however, feels like a Pink Floyd album in the sense every song follows effortlessly into the next, but I struggle to decipher which song is which. A Night on The Town is my personal highlight so far, has everything going for it and to be honest the album doesn't truly come to life until this point. Act II and Act III have extremely powerful first halves but lose steam by the second half, Act IV on the other hand gradually builds momentum until exploding into A Night on the Town.
I'll probably stick with 4.5 for this one so far, it seems like a really unique and fantastic album, but feels nowhere near as immediate as the other acts (which isn't a bad thing, just needs time to grow). I like!
