Hawks never talks about individual songs in his reviews for some reason

sometimes there's no need to talk about any individual songs

It'd be pretty helpful for readers who've never heard this before for an album that combines like ten genres, some of which as different as bm and folk

Nice review, Hawks.

Length is just fine tbh.

this is a great review. the lack of mention of individual songs is fine and all the points are crystal clear.

Review is indeed good, pos my friend. Despite the instrumental flaws I hear at times, this is still one of my favorite genrebending metal records m/

The lead guitar work sometimes bothers me here. It's a problem on pretty well all of Agalloch's albums though

I always prefer talking about lots of the songs but if done right it's perfectly fine

agreed, I always feel weird when I forget to mention a song in one of my reviews ahaha

I see no problems with this review, though.

This is my hardest 4.5, honestly the out-of-tune lead guitar that pops up occasionally, snare drum sound, and some vocals are the only flaws I hear. This album probably has their best and most creative guitar work and atmosphere. I also love how over-the-top the lyrics and themes are, as well as their vision for winter and supernatural themes.

They can't write a solo to save their lives, this album is particularly bad in that regard

they sure do

it's a shame really, especially when they're able to write excellent songs just to ruin them with a shitty solo

yeah that's extremely true. they sort of got their shit together on Ashes in regards to that but the last 2 albums have gone back to having crap solos again

Did marrow really have that many solos? I revisited it a couple of weeks ago and didn't notice / wasn't bothered about it

there's some bad moments in Watcher's Monolith but yeah you're right, it's not as big a problem as it is here

Thanks for the kind words dudes. I've never been one to talk about individual songs in reviews tbh, I prefer to try and describe the album as a whole. :]
