PErhaps it's not the fairest of comparisons in my case because I've always thought BTBAM were shite and not these guys but their quality has sharply declined in the last decade.

This has grown off me a little since the initial two listens, but it's still solid as a rock in my book.

pos'd omair bro.....i dug iconoclast so i'll be checking this out

Dunno why this review has 5 negs now.
3.5 is probably where I'm gonna stay at with this album. Like Iconoclast, it is a solid jam but not their best work by any stretch.

probably people saying
WHAT A 3!!!???VZSFDKJNDFVKIJNGBIEEFIWIFNVVE NEG!!!!

Either that or someone got pissed his review got featured. Too many featured user reviews have unwarranted negs.

I would think if people had the option to vote on staff and contrib reviews (it used to be like that for the latter) then I'm sure they would end up getting negs as well.

Album Rating: 3.5
Definitely. I liked the contrib voting change.

That summary made me chuckle.

Thanks for the POS' guys. I actually feel a bit bad because I like the band and I think my rating might deter people from checking the album out (since it still only has 60ish ratings). And it really isn't a bad album, just nothing spectacular

Album is a slight grower; I really dig the extreme metal snippets put here and there.
On another note, band has aged way better than Dream Theater.

I would say that's because Dream Theater's been around longer, but it's not that much longer so...

Album Rating: 5.0
I think it's because people have realized that Dream Theater are actually quite painfully average, and pretty much always have been.

I think it's because they've been more patient with their releases. They've only released 4 albums since 2002

@Omair that's because they're too busy writing so many 20 minute songs

@Toon: *forcing themselves to write 20 minute songs
@Soccer: I hear what you're saying and I agree, but I wouldn't want them to completely revert to their old sound. They had the opportunity to add more electronic elements on Iconoclast because of the whole man vs machine theme, and here they had the opportunity to experiment with dark ominous sounds because of the concept of the album, but they really didn't. That's what gets me.
As I've accepted the fact that they stuck to the Iconoclast formula on this, I've begun to enjoy this album more. It's still between a 3 and 3.5, but initially I was a bit more impulsive and now a bit more rational
