he sounds really good live from what i've heard. i'm seeing them in a few weeks, i'll let you guys know

Already saw them with Marcus in February on the Frozen Flame tour.
He sucks. Adrian was so much fucking better.
Marcus absolutely butchered Dispossession and Aspire.

you know what? these guys tried this time round
could have played it safe and released a full on chug fest and it still would have been met with blind praise from a lot of people but they tried something else
they took a risk so kudos to them, didn't quite pay off but this isn't terrible by any means

The whole "taking a risk" thing is a tough one. I definitely admire that they took a risk as well, but I feel like they had to because of Marcus. Like someone said earlier, he butchered their older songs live. Marcus and Adrian are two completely different frontmen. I wouldn't be surprised if there are barely any screams on the next release.

"I wouldn't be surprised if there are barely any screams on the next release"
man that would be sick, i kinda hope they go full deftones worship mode

me too, but if marcus can improve his screams, that would also be sick.
anyway i dont think marcus sucks, he just sucks at imitating adrian, which i'm sure most people would.
so not really any loss there.

"Marcus absolutely butchered Dispossession and Aspire."
Whoa, I saw them at the FF tour stop in Seattle and they didn't play either of those. Dang, would've been nice to hear those ones. Even if they weren't top notch vocally.
But yeah, performing Adrian's parts would be tough for the vast majority of vocalists out there.

marcus fits this new atmosphere focused image better than adrian could anyway

To be honesty, I really wish the record was primarily singing and not screaming. I would've probably 4.5'd this if it were 85% cleans and the screams were used more in the background behind his singing and over top the heavier parts.

Yea not feeling the new vocalist at all. His screams are weak and his singing isn't strong enough to wow me.

@JeetJeet
i dont think the vocals are the focus anymore but rather it is the song as a whole and the atmosphere it generates.
|
| |
His singing sounds like he can only really hold notes in his high register. Sounds like he is over singing on songs. I honestly don't think he fits the new style.
Leech sounds like ons and new have had a baby, works well. Most of the songs sound kinda awkward.

"i dont think the vocals are the focus anymore but rather it is the song as a whole and the atmosphere it generates."
yeah, but when I look at the whole songs...they all bore me to death. The fun guitarwork they used to have is pretty much dulled down. Feels like they tried too hard to be atmospheric and they just forgot about what made them a good band to begin with.

Singularity had atmosphere and was still heavy. This has waaaay better production tho.
