Never listened to this band before, but my buddy's band (Cheerleader) are touring with them, so we're gonna go see 'em while I'm out in Portland. Hopefully they're at least fun live?
|

yeah id imagine these guys are fun live
especially if they play the old stuff. very sing a long catchy indie rock

Actually quite enjoyed the singles, interested to hear the full LP.
Seeing these at Reading on saturday night instead of Metallica (I really hate metallica), and I imagine they're good fun.

Not that I've seen them. but they should be really fun live AW... Presumably, they haven't got too serious about their live show.
Unsure I'd see them ahead of Metallica IYR, but if you dislike that band, then why not. Let us know what do you think when you get around to listening to this in full.

idk if there is a usa equivalent to lads but i have a somewhat better understanding now.
|

Like i said, the whole lad thing isnt exactly set in stone or very commonplace but its defo an idea we have of people over here
The usa equivalent of lads would be the kids in Superbad if they had any balls and werent massive nerds

Jim, if any band can pull off the "fun, but average" thang, then The Wombats can.

Agreed. They don't blow me away and some of the lyrics are corny, but it's fun up beat music that's catchy. I'll take it at face value.

I honestly thought this album was pretty good. I don't mind the 80's worship with the synths, but they really are a singles band, kind of like Arctic Monkeys. Can never really listen to the whole album. I'm always skipping to Greek Tragedy, Be Your Shadow, Curve Balls, and Give Me a Try. Not sure I've heard their second album. Guess I should check it out since everyone keeps saying it's synth-heavy.

I saw them live last year and was amazed by how young the crowd was. For a band whose popularity peaked with the debut in 2007 as part of the big British indie wave, I was pretty surprised. Definitely a band to catch live though, even now. Singles-packed and a great sound.
This album is nice enough, but it wears out its welcome very easily as the pop sheen wears off after a few listens. Lacks the darker undercurrents of the earlier work that made them kind of unique.

Some would argue they never peaked...... haha
but yeah agreed, earlier work was marginally better.
