Dam you think this is better than IC, SDT, and RD? That main riff of Barricades induces ear bleeding m/, but

yeah Fire is pretty meh

Idk they all sort of fluctuate in the 4-5 range for me, so its hard to rank any of them definitively but I will say I like this album better than Recreation Day yeah.

The vocal melodies on this record are crazy infectious after you hear them for a while. More so than any of their past releases. Instrumentally they've done far better, but this album is really fun to listen to.

The review rating is 4.5 the rating you've written at the end of the review is 4.1, and your current rating

is 5 :D

The vocals are definitely better on this but the songwriting is more dynamic and varied on the other albums

I feel.

THEY CALL US KINGS!!!

Still the best chorus on the album

Haha yeah. I feel like the 4.1 is the more objective rating as far as the quality of the album, while the 5 is how much I personally enjoyed it. That probably makes no sense to anyone, but it makes sense to me.

Totally agree that the vocal performance was awesome while the songwriting is more dynamic on other albums.

Yeah that makes sense, you want the review to be more objective while your current rating reflects how you're feeling at the moment.

The vocals are probably the highlight of the album.

The vocals and melodies on this album are fantastic. Guitar work is not bad, but not fantastic either. I hope they build upon this already amazing album, because I really like the direction they are going. This could well be my album of the year.

FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

ONNNNNNN HOLDDDDDDDD.....FEELS LIKE A BLACK UNDERTOWWWWWWWWW

Totally agree Shabz, at many times on this record Tom takes nothing and turns into something great simply by how he sings the line.

KJ, I 4.5'd it... it grew on me quickly over the weekend, some solos are magical... one of the best records I've heard so far this year (which is almost over)... title track is my fav though... the piano interludes are perfect... Artwork reminds me of suicide machines and strike anywhere...

Nuthingssssss the saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamee

I love how he echos himself on that line. Song is easily top 5 Evergrey for me alongside the likes of Solitude Within, Mark of the Triangle, and Different Worlds.

Yeah, and the vocal delivery is different and refreshing. The vocal performance is definitely the strongest part of the album.

Errors, Dawn and Rage are the top three for me on this album

Yeah Undertow's aight as is Barricades. Aftermath has one of the more beautiful sections on the album, and

Collapse's main piano melody is good. The album definitely has great moments.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON AAAAAANND OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooon

WE RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISE WEEEE FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLL

What's great about the vocal performance is that Tom has some cool new melodies and varies his style to

keep

it interesting.

Yeah man he definitely grew as an artist and covered new ground on this record. If we could just get him to go back and write another SDT/ISOT instrumental record with amazing vocal melodies like on here it'd be 10/10 hard.

Surprised you're still clutching to that modest 3.5.

"write another SDT/ISOT instrumental record with amazing vocal melodies like on here it'd be 10/10 hard."

That would be cool, but they've already done that well. I would like them to take their sound further and experiment more.

Yeah man the album hasn't grown on me. Maybe if I come back to it after a while I'll like it more. Solid album regardless.

The winds of auuutumn breeeeeeze

The most beautiful part of the album, should have used more clean tones throughout like the good old days.

@Evo: Its a pretty good release for sure

Archaic Rage and King of Errors are among the most fun songs this year, shame the rest of the album doesn't QUITE hold up.

Still really solid.

Great band live, Englund has a very nice stage presence. I expected to hear more songs off this, though.
