Oh there's no denying that. I've been there before and it really sucks when that happens. Sometimes you work hard on something only to be told it's crap. However, everyone has to work through that and really take into account the good critiques and just ignore the "review sucks" comments. The more you write, the less you'll see those comments in most cases.

@HolidayKirk Sorry to disappoint you, but I haven't done anything to this review yet. I'm working on my update now because I feel I wasn't as professional as I should have been, and I want to set a better standard for myself.

^ Had the same feeling with my first review six years ago on my old account. Of course in that case my pride was misplaced as that review WAS actually terribad. I took advice and got better though.

I've written a bunch of reviews for this website that I thought would leave people speechless with my genius only to find they were pretentious shit. Its the best kind of learning experience around here. Spare the gentle hand, bring on the cold bucket of water.

their best,
still nothing special, but decent alt-rock with classical influence...
it's quite ironic how they got big after they turned into shit and lost almost all their originality

Review is well written, but kind of wanky. It's cool that you're throwing in a lot of musical theory in there but it isn't really needed.

Why didn't you just have this review deleted and repost your new review?

You wouldn't be bothering them man trust me. Anyway this is much better, but a couple things though:

"On one hand, I admired the ambition and thought that the rhythm section was consistently excellent."

This is VERY choppy. I would put something like On one hand, this album's ambition is admirable and the rhythm section proves to be consistently excellent.

Also, I know you don't like the distortion intros but are they long intros? If not that comes off as a bit nitpicky.

Try to avoid saying stuff like "for me" in a review because since this is your review so it's obviously what you think. It'll be hard but try to avoid the first person altogether to make it sound a tad more professional. Maybe use "one" more as I see you did that once in the last paragraph. A phrase I like to use is "the listener" because it kinda gives the review a universal feel to it imo. Hope this helps man! I can definitely see potential for improvement

It's better now. We may have scared you from ever sharing your music theory knowledge, but I don't think its always off-limits like some may say. If I have something interesting to say about the theory, I'll keep it brief and maybe restated in layman's terms. The trick is mixing it well with other points. It's like a good persuasive speech. You give the logical argument, but if you forget the emotional appeals or concrete examples you'll lose the audience.
