I really like "Don't Take Off the Gloves" too - I'm still taking in the album as a whole, but I've been enjoying it. Review nails how I feel about Scott Hutchison, you can always count on this guy to craft some good lyrics.

Seeing this lil project on Thursday night. Not heard anything from it and gave up on Frabbit circa 2011/12 but we'll see how it goes.

for the record I thought Scott was really below par last night, I found it remarkably bland and rather pointless considering half of his set was songs from TMOF, what's the point in doing solo work if you're just gonna play old tunes?

I mean Midnight Organ Fight is miles ahead of any of his other FR or solo work with the exception of a few songs

Well yeah, but this is easily the second best thing he's done

i mean i had no clue that he was playing at all (i was unable to find any info on supports or anything) so him supporting was very unexpected for me. as for playing songs from TMOF, i see where you're coming from but i enjoyed all of the FR songs he played anyway. this modern leper made me a very happy man, though it was the banter between songs that made his set imo.
also, the songs from this album sounded really cool with just electric guitar, vocals and no drums - specifically hate music and red hand.

"I mean Midnight Organ Fight is miles ahead of any of his other FR or solo work with the exception of a few songs"
I can't speak for this record but I wholeheartedly agree with it easily eclipsing the other FR material. However, regardless of that record possessing better songwriting, doesn't it kinda negate the purpose of slinging it solo?
"the songs from this album sounded really cool with just electric guitar, vocals and no drums"
Got bored and went to the bar about half way into his set, just after he brought his brother on stage. Plus, that was when the TMOF songs started - I've seen him performing full-band FR songs before so stripped down, less energetic imitations were a little underwhelming.

I love all of his work and this is possibly wrong, but it feels like he rediscovered part of the thing that made The Midnight Organ Fight, and parts of Sing the Greys, The Winter of Mixed Drinks, and Pedestrian Verse, as well as some of the b-sides feel so special. He does well when he's in a happier state of living, but when he's not, we get The Midnight Organ Fight and Owl John.
