Not sure the influence of Nirvana was more than say 5-10 years, who is emulating, or using them as an influence now , don't know asking, are the indie bands doing it, because I wouldn't know. You can tell how great a band was by how long they stay influential

ah, what, the Ramones basically started the US version of Punk, a year before the quickly flamed out UK version, they influenced everything from short 2 minute simple songs, and only down strumming, to the dress code of punk, what did Nirvana ever influence, they stole most of their stuff from 70 rock and early metal, Cobain admitted as such, and within 2 years of being disbanded the whole"grunge" Movement which was a rip of Neil Young to begin with was gone, over, I'd say the spin off, Foo FIghters has been more influential to current rock acts than Nirvana ever did

ramones were definitely more influential than nirvana, you just weren't around to witness that influence
for example, punk was a precursor to trash metal
|
| |
In terms of influence they're actually close, both had myriads of bands trying to emulate that distinctive sound they both had.

yeah i just think the reach of punk/ramones influence is much greater than grunge/nirvana, although more time has passed for the former

This band is probably the most overrated band in all punk history. I love punk and pop punk personally and to see how many people idolize the Ramones is just a crime to me. I don't care if they are the "forefathers of punk" or whatever people call them. There was no risk or creativity when they made these songs and you can realize this just by how all their songs sound similar with the crappy guitar playing the same 3 power chords the whole song. They all sound like Blitzkrieg Bop to me. I gave all of their albums a listen just to answer the question "why are these guys so popular?" and I honestly can't see why so many people think they are.
