German language rules. The 'Der, Die and Das' rule confused me a little though haha.

Well, German is a very "rough" language. Tough to use in a musical context, really good for detailed stuff (science and philosophy) and in the right hands also poetry.

Well, that seems to be confusing to most people who are accustomed to English or Romanic languages.

Ich möchte gerne eine Currywurst haben.

Best German sentence to use.

Hell no, we've got way better sentences. Like: Mit meinem schönene Hackebeil lass ich keinem die Backe heilen or Ich bin ein Monolith in Anthrazit in der Brandung der Euphorie.

But I think Currywurst is the best thing in the world :[

Our Currywurst is your Fish & Chips. Cheap fast food you can get everywhere, not really the gold of our cuisine. We've got much more expertise in bread, pastries and cheese.

Depending on the style, yeah. Unfortunately - as in most Western countries - big conglomerates (apart from Bavaria, which is pretty much beer mecca) have the highest market share and most pubs are tied to them.

GB, the U.S., Canada and Belgium have some really good beer, too. All of them have styles they excel at.

We have some really nice blonde ales over here.

GB usually excels at traditional ales/bitters, porters and stouts.

Depending on one's taste they also have some nice PAs and IPAs - generally the British versions seem a lot more balanced than the "extreme" American variations. (i.e. less chock-full of hops or "crazy out there" experimentation - generally more brewing tradition apart from the breweries that have adapted the same mindset)

Same goes for Germany, we excel at our traditional styles and our focus is usually on more balanced stuff. Although some of the younger breweries have also taken up the "protypically American" styles like IPAs and DIPAs. Unfortunately our access to the good stuff is very variable and you reall need to know where to look for - I think it's somewhat similar in GB but not to the same degree.

Also if you dig German styles check out breweries like Ayinger, Schneider Weisse, Faust, Uerige, Freigeist/The Monarchy, Schönramer, Camba Bavaria, Augustiner, Rittmayer and Riegele.

Speaking of which, I'm actually stocking up on stuff right now for the next few months. Right now I've stashed 9 bottles of various variations of mead and tomorrow the rest of my beer should arrive, which should then be at 17 bottles.

Gotta be prepared for New Year's and I won't be having much leftover the next few months until I get my BaföG (which usually takes a while because bureaucracy is dicks)

Speaking of British booze, though I'd really like to try Moniack mead (a scottish, supposedly originally gaelish) mead that is quite expensive and hard to get here.

Tbh I rarely ever drink mead. The IPA varieties I've tried are all great, although I have always been a fan of pale ales anyway.

More of a blonde man nowadays, we have one over here called 'Saltaire Blond'. Its like a mix of German and Czech hops, really tasty and smooth.

Did you ever try some good mead? I really like both beer and mead, although it depends on the occasion and context. Obviously you also need some good quality stuff of the former, there's some really bad shit out there, too.

Mhm, I haven't had our quivalent to your BA for some time, "Helles" or "Blond" is usually a very Bavarian thing. (also one of the beers they usually have on Oktoberfest - albeit overpriced as hell)

I really like dark and strong beers. Imperial Stouts/Porters, strong Belgian ales like Rochefort and St. Bernardus or certain varieties of Bockbier.

I do like stout, especially when used in casserole dishes funnily enough. Gives it a nice kick.

About six years ago some friends and I landed in Frankfurt and had a drink... next thing I remember we were in Munich eight days later. German beer is awesome

Bavaria - Munich specifically - is definitely a good place for beer. So is FFM if you can find the pub Naïv and the Braustil brewery.
