yeah playing in high school was fun and all, but I hardly felt engaged creatively.

you don't have to create music to perform music
so unless you're playing your own compositions or improvising there is no creative process associated with playing an instrument

well yeah, I didn't mean that playing an instrument = creativity. just didn't feel super engaged with playing a saxophone for 6 years in a school band. I got really bad anxiety in high school so it was kinda hellish at times, so being reclusive and making stuff of my own was a better fit
