This is so bad, and this is coming from someone who gave Undun a 5. I'm not sure what there is to like about this. When the People Cheer and Never are the only tracks even worth listening to (and even Never has some of Black Thought's laziest rhyming.) I could deal with the lack of verses on Undun but on this how many Black Thought verses are there? If I remember correctly (I only listened to this on the day of release) 7, and not only that, but most of them are lackluster. Plenty of these tracks sound awful (I believe Black Rock is the track where Dice Raw literally sounded like Ice JJ Fish) and there are pointless interludes throughout a really short album. Someone please explain to me how this is "underrated."

definitely, pots. this just confirms what many of us have come to expect of the roots: they're not content with making the same album twice. this is a little more on the experimental side, but it's a very concise and entertaining album front to back imo. and some of the hooks are ridiculously good

shockandawe: i will grant you that black rock is hilariously awful (that chorus is the worst bloody thing ever), but there are many beautiful moments on this - particularly the coming and never. there are a lot of shifty transitions that seem awkward at times, but they're not disorienting or anything - makes it seem like an ever-changing dream

I love the Roots, but this wasn't really for me, although i found it interesting, I didn't enjoy it at all.

I just find the verses in some of the tracks to be sub-par at best.

this gets ripped on more than it deserves. right on to the roots for not following the trends and for not just making the same albums over and over.
