I've seen a lot of people labelling it as a Death metal pioneering album but it sounds more Black metal to me, like it has it all, semi-blasts, the voice, the guitar melodies...

death metal i think is appropriate too. that's why these handful of years in the mid-80s are so interesting, all the "extreme" metal overlaps so much, before black and death at least became really defined in 1990+ or so
like, seven churches is sometimes considered the first death metal release, but it could just as easily if not moreso be considered thrash or old school black
