Oddly enough, most of the reasons you listed for not liking the album are reasons why I think the album succeeds, but good review nonetheless

thanks North, appreciate you taking the time to read it! and Stallion, don't worry man I've been hearing the same from a bunch of people so you're not alone. Isn't it weird how the same thing could register so radically different with people? I've always thought that was fascinating. thanks for reading Stallion glad you enjoyed

Sputnik will only go butthurt if you say that Deftones suck,(which they don't, for the record)

eh they don't really do anything for me one way or the other. they are the definition of a solid band. they have a solid discography but nothing that's ever struck me as like "wow these guys are good"

Deftones used to never do shit for me. Then one day outta nowhere they just kinda clicked.

The one band that never does shit for me is Sigur Ros, (which thankfully isn't in the same tier of importance on Sputnik as bands like GY!BE and Deftones)

GY!BE doesn't really do much for me either, while Sigur Ros' second album is magnificent but it's the only one of their albums I can get into. I just picked up Primal Scream/s Screamadelica today and it's pretty great

This is a pretty good review in some ways but not in others. It took a decent stab at explaining the music and its relevance but the arguments for it being bad are pretty vague and not true.

From what I gathered from this review:
- lacks variety or cohesiveness: I don't know what to tell you this album is pretty damn diverse a lot more than most albums would be in similar genres easily. There are overlying themes of paranoia, darkness, and primalness that are pretty consistent.

-feels like a phase instead of a classic: well this argument is basically backed up by nothing other than pure speculation but I don't see why this would even effect the rating at all.

Am I missing anything or were there any real arguments in this review?

It's pretentious and over-ambitious, the "vocals" are horrendous, and the album doesn't have that sentimental or musical click that makes an album great to me. so yeah, I guess you missed some stuff

how is my taste generic?? I listen to a multitude of different genres and artists. Perhaps from what I've reviewed you might be inclined to think that, but how bout we lay off the speculation mate

@Iron: given your pretty sweet description of the vocals I figured you liked them, pretty sure your description certainly doesn't convey dislike. I could maybe see some people saying this album is pretentious but I've pretty much concluded that it is impossible to make 'mysterious' music without being pretentious and it is kind of part of the package.

And that'a an awful mighty statement coming from the kid who's reviewed nothing but emo records. Sorry this wasn't a City of Caterpillar or Slint review

Propose, it's funny you mention that because a lot of people seem to like MC Ride's approach for the same reasons I don't. Music is subjective and you should expect (and appreciate) subjective views. If everyone agreed that every "good" record was good and every "bad" record was bad this wouldn't be a fun site at all. I'm sorry you don't agree with the rating but I wish you could see my view as I have tried and understand your own
