With how Matt screamed in the demo, would that be considered hardcore rather than metalcore?

Haven't heard it but the difference between hardcore and metalcore has more to do with the music than the vocals

I always thought this album was leaning towards the hardcore side, but I also associated yelling
vocals with hardcore and the demo has that vocal style. That was back in 1999/2000, which was right
when metalcore was becoming more distinct, so I think A7X was originally a hardcore band getting into
the new style of metalcore.

Trantalocked is most likely right about Avenged Sevenfold: a lot of bands at that time were either going from hardcore to metal core, or at least incorporating some of metalcore's style in their music.

Not bad for a debut, but some songs on here are pretty terrible. 'Turn the other way' is a complete and utter mess and both 'Darkness surrounding' and 'Forgotten faces' are plagued by drums being too high in the mix. Shadows' vocals aren't the worst I've heard, but his clean vocals and so much better than his harsh ones, even if they are still pretty weak. There are a few really well-written songs here, like the surprising piano-led 'Warmness on the soul' and the two heavier, more aggressive likes of 'We come out at night' and 'Breaking their hold'. I didn't expect much from this album before listening to it, and I guess I was kinda proved right.

I hate this kind of Vocal Spewing. BUT I love this style of Metal instrumentation and hence I will still listen to it. But yeah I hate the growling rubish. I mean it just doesnt work for me. It should only be used very sparingly for a bit of impact.

I actually like the vocals on the first two albums. It sorta sounds like a hybrid of metalcore screaming and black metal screeching, as weird as that sounds

Or he just didn't know how to use his voice yet. I'm just taking back the disc as I haven't ever listened properly to their first two. It's quite raw and confusionary and some parts (or entire songs) are quite laughable. Won't spend much time on it

This album is so underrated but it's literally their best work. I'm not sure why it's so undervalued. I guess the A7x fanbase can only listen to clean production haha.
