"tesfaye wasn't the one who originally wanted to push in that direction. and if he hadn't he would never be where he is now and we wouldn't have those 3 classics"

That's a ridiculous statement because it discredits the fact the Tesfaye further developed the rest of the first mixtape, obviously developed and sang the lyrics, polished off all production, and then proceeded to make two more tapes.

lolno, you said that rose only came up with beats. he came up with the entire concept and explained it to tesfaye, therefore creating the weeknd sound

"I had this idea for a dark R&B project. I think I talked to Curtis Santiago [aka Talwst, local

Toronto R&B dude] about it, but he wasn’t really what I was looking for because he was on some other

thing. Abel seemed to suit the project."

"When I met him I heard some of the stuff that he was doing. It was called the Noise. Remember that?

It came out after he broke. It was this group, with him and another producer and it was called the

Noise. They were a straight kind of R&B, just really light and kind of candlelight… [sings] “I wanna

see you in your birthday suit”… And I was just like, “Aw, fuck that shit. No man, let’s talk about,

fuckin’ and getting too high and trying to fuck bitches and it not working out. Let’s get really

grimy about it.""

"Just so we’re crystal clear: The first three songs released by the Weeknd, which Drake posted to his blog, all feature your production.

Yeah.

And those are the first three tracks that initially got the Weeknd recognized by outlets like the New York Times and Pitchfork.

Yeah."

I understand all of that. The reality is those are only 3 tracks and to say that the guy is responsible for what is The Weeknd is a tad ridiculous.

The entire catalog and product the guy has put out is much bigger and more expansive than three beats and a very vague and general idea.

" that's a pretty terrible way of explaining it lol"

Exactly

I'm sure he explained it better to Abel, I'm just talking about his wording in the interview

and coming up with the idea is kind of a big deal, seeing as how it's so original.

he may have taken the idea and run with it on his own, but it was rose who came up with it and rose who produced those three songs

and without that idea and without those three tracks he would never have blown up like he did

I mean, I don't want to discredit Abel, he's an incredibly talented singer and his lyrics are exceptional, and Doc Mckinney and Illangelo's production is outstanding but you gotta give credit where it's due, and Jeremy definitely deserves credit for coming up with the concept
