Quite enjoying this. Def more so than I did acoustic WYTTSY.
Epic review!

I love when bands go back and redo old albums (just need Thrice to come off hiatus and do Illusion of Safety with better production) and the improvement to YC is noticeable. However as a person who actually damaged his Ocean Avenue CD by listening to it too much, I don't think there's much interesting here. I listened to a couple of their songs and they are fantastic, but I can't see me singling this album out to listen to.

Great review! Album left me wanting a bit more variation like you said.
Have to disagree with the part about the musical talent never being overwhelming or impressive, the drummer is an absolute beast.

Yeah my first impression of this was a 3-3.5 but the more I listened the more I picked up on the little differences. I still by far prefer the original album, though. To me, that's a classic.
And I agree about the drummer being good, but I was making more of an overall assessment for the whole band.

Yeah its certainly a grower. The original is close to a classic for me, there was always a couple of tracks I seemed to skip though.

Dammit SS, at first I was gonna make fun of you for being all emo, and then the feels hit. Fuck.

Need to get their discography, or at least Ocean Avenue.

Yeah the feels always hit sooner or later with YC.
Definitely Acanthus, get Ocean Avenue...far and away their best work followed by their two most recent albums...then One for the Kids, Lights and Sounds, and Paper Walls are all still decent.

They're on my pop punk Pandora station but I never listened to the group otherwise, though I definitely enjoy them. Thanks for the recommended listening order!

Yeah, Southern Air is their strongest release IMO, but Ocean Avenue is still great. The new rendition of "One Year, Six Months" is fantastic. The piano really gives it a whole new layer.

no prob SS
i actually really enjoy this. his voice sounds a bit off without the (presumable) copious production but maybe a bit more real. prob 3.5-4 for me, which is also what i have the original

Love this review. I was already going to pick this up at some point, but you've convinced me further.

Amazing review, I love the sentimental parts of it. This is the second review of yours (ironic the first was also a Yellowcard review) that made me go out and buy the album as soon as I see it in stores. So yeah, great review, as usual.

Well yeah of course it's not as good it's a remake.
But depending on your mood certain versions of songs from this can hit you harder from an emotional standpoint
