I just remember that I spent almost the entire game using the wooden plank as my primary weapon because I was paranoid about ammo conservation.
Until the final boss, then I just unloaded with the hunting rifle.
And the great knife (or whatever it was called) was pretty disappointing, though it made sense how it was utilized.
