disappointing cos the instrumentation gives me hard in the flat field vibes but then she just pisses all over it know what i mean

What an outstanding debut album! These girls are ace!
Although lots of copies from Joy Division -> maniac repetitive screaming in "i am here" or "she
will" simmilar to "transmission" or "they walked in line". But then again, isn't this kind of whats
all about in this genre? But they managed to still be different to any band in the post-punk genre
by being way more of a revolt than anyone. The only band that seems simmilar as females making
revolt is The Slits (though they have actual Punk-roots) and actually having these very visible
sonic textures, i.e. chain-saw sounding or absolutely self-destructive feedback giving guitar sounds
that give the message of the lyrics some context. Yep! They have outstanding lyrics! The lesbian
deeply sexual melodrama in "She will" or the Free-your-gender impression and dont be a slave/wife of
"husbands" make you wanna mock alongside Jehnny Beth even if you are a man because you can fully
absorb the context she is coming from. There was never a revolution so close by on a record since
like the Electric Ladyland-Era!
In usual Post-Punk the message is more "i am fu**#d" whereas here it is more "Dont let the F***#s
get you down". Although it is a quiet revolt in this concept album, where the Singer mumbs already
at the beginning, begs in her mind with her thoughts to let the dictator-like voice of the sample
finally shut up!
The only downside? I can't think of them nailing it simmilar good on their 2nd album.

lol'd about "But they managed to still be different to any band in the post-punk genre by being way more of a revolt than anyone apart from The Slits" but otherwise I'd agree that some of the lyrics like the poem on the front of the artwork are really cool

p sure someone already said this but these gals have the vibes/sound/guitar tones fucking nailed they just need stronger songs to back it all up

Just got to add:
She Will
It is the obvious stand out in an album where there is not one single weak song!

your copy must be missing no face

i love the guitar tones in it in the slow section even though it is just as simple as that. how perfect she comes back in " You argue everything... like a bird... "
Once it switches from this very punk- almost straight-edge section to this almost classic-rock banger-section "Dont worry about breaking my heart" is just perfect and mind-bending. This is what the song makes really worthwhile.
The repetitive vocals "You have no face" fit in with the whole record and her attitude of revolt. I love this repeating, because it makes her look very desperate and fanatic about her statements just like what Ian Curtis did when he sang "Transmission" - Dance to the radio and singing of his future vision of this radio-workinglikeatransmission future and being all fanatic about holding on to his vision but finally loosing it. This is what comes here, too, just in other songs even stronger.
As a single song: 4,5 out of 5.
On a different page...
the guitarplayer is incredibly hot! If i ever go out in a dream with a post punk band i dont know if i would choose Warpaint or Savages... its a toughy!
