Listening to this for the first time and it's a Kayo Dot album if I've ever heard one. Really fucking good, "Immortelle" is nuts.

Ah yeah, this is a Josh D. album if I've ever heard one. Very fucking good for sure

I only really like ‘Aura’ on this so far, damn this band are frustrating. There are definitely fleeting moments of enjoyment here, but also long stretches of uneventful or anti-climactic material.

Limpid Form is one of the most tiresome things I’ve ever heard.

Yeah I almost see no reason for Limpid to be as long as it is

First 4-5 minutes of Limpid is fantastic, and the rest of it is... there.

The last half is a meditative experience

The last half is a chore if you only listen to that song, but it works great in sequence - really sets the stage for Amaranth the Peddler, and oh boy is that a perfect closer
So much of this album is about compelling use of near-empty space, so I guess On Limpid Form fits in nicely. Kinda cool that they explore sparseness by wearing one idea into nothingness instead of the ambience the other songs reach for

Yeah Limpid Form you just gotta switch mental gears and drone with it for awhile, really fucking great if you're in the right headspace for it

Edit Johnny got there first and said it better

"limpid" is like "bemused" as a word, always conflating it with the word it resembles/contains (amused; limp). therefore,

Whatever floats your guy's boat. To me 13 minutes of a heavy sustained guitar chord played over and over again, with nothing changing other than some trash can clanging toward the end isn't compelling or meditative to me. Maybe I need to squeegee my third eye or something.

But Amaranth the Peddler is indeed perfect, as are Immortelle And Paper Caravelle and Aura on an Asylum Wall.

13 minutes is not exactly an insignificant length of time, especially when those minutes happen consecutively.

Being the grumpy old git I (seemingly) am, that warrants at least a full 1 pt deduction.

Yeah it's 1/4 of the whole album lol, and that warrants the .5 point deduction from my rating. The other 45 minutes, including the first 5 minutes of Limpid, is perfection and pretty much rivals Choirs of the Eye for best Kayo Dot imo.

Relistening to this and just finished Limpid in its entirety (damn, much more engaging than I remembered); on course for potentially dethroning Choirs, depending on how that holds up

Cot dam, this is lovely. I prefer this to CHOIRS OF THE EYE, without a doubt.
