Pretty solid album, maybe not as good IMO as HBD2, but it's just a step above Educated Horses. Still needs to catch back up to Sinister Urge and Hellbilly Deluxe 1.
Off-topic, but House of 1000 Corpses on Sinister Urge is a fucking excellent track. He needs to experiment more like that on his next album.

For me, this destroys HBD2.

HBD2 was pretty generic, even for Zombies standards.
This has been bumped to a 5, because I just haven't been able to put it down since release. Best thing he's done since the debut.

Rob has said the next album is meant to be "sounding fucking weird", I can only assume it means more experimentation. Can't wait.

"horror is my favorite genre so it pisses me off when he seems like he knows everything modern horror needs to be fixed, but he
keeps coming out with mediocre - shit films"
It's his writing--as well as his inability to tell his wife to fuck off when it comes to casting his films. His direction isn't anything
exceptional, but it's still a cut above most musicians turned filmmakers. His infatuation with riffing directors like Tobe Hooper and
Stanley Kubrick don't do him much favors either. If you're going to borrow from your influences, at least try to do it subconsciously.
I did like the imagery in Lords of Salem though.
Anyway, Zombie was always my high school hero. I suppose there's worst bands I could have liked. It certainly beats the majority of
nu-metal that was being pumped out at that time. I always have a nostalgic love for WZ, so i'll always check out his new releases.
This album isn't anything to write home about, but at least has more replay value than any album he's put out since The Sinister
Urge.

I disagree with all this.
If anything, Rob is one of the few --maybe the only-- decent director's/writers that knows how to make a horror film in this day and age. Everything he's ever said about the state the horror genre is in is true. And while his last two films weren't for everyone, they still beat the shit out of anything coming out.

You really don't watch a lot of movies then. I can reel off a dozen horror films in the past couple years alone that blow his shit out of the water.

I'd be interested to know what "blows his shit out the water" because i'm always looking for a decent horror film. never happens, because they're all generic shite, based on exorcism's, paranormal or some bullshit shake cam films or "found footage" as they're called now. Rob knows how to make a horror.
