Yeah he definitely is, but at the same time that isn't his limitation. With countless other projects, like No-man and Pig that aren't necessarily prog, but still focus on the artistic aspects of the sound. I didn't take it as an insult towards him, more of a depiction that he only loves prog, so he only makes prog. Great review though. I'm pretty sure I'll like this a lot.

Yea I knew thats what you meant Paper. But prog bands were still very much trying to appeal. Pink Floyd was as artsy as you can be and they were kinda big. They werent trying to appeal to the masses but they obviously appealed to enough. Same with Steve Wilson.

You're right. I mean prog, is an acquired taste to some, but there's a lot of genius that goes into the music besides experimental tendencies. Like you said, Pink Floyd is able to create a good balance of art and accessibility- that's close to impossible for some. There are bands like King Crimson that really dont give a fuck about appeal, yet they're loved by many. But in reality, music taste is really an 'eye of the beholder' kind of thing.

Yea its not easy to be experimental, progressive, artsy, or whatever other buzz words and still make it "catchy" enough to get into.

I want to learn the bass parts to "Luminol". It's got such a groove to it.

i don't see why people are comparing this to Heritage...y'all do know that Opeth and PT are separate bands right?

they are certainly comparable, especially since Mike and Steve have been working together for the last 10 years or so.
|
| |
yea and this is even more comparable to the countless 70's prog albums yet i don't see people saying "this is better than Red but not as good as Moonmadness"

because obviously those albums were released a long time ago. you're not being reasonable here at all.
