Peter Gabriel's solo career sure had its moments of pure ownage. Like kicking Invisible Touch off number 1 in '87.
I'll take sledgehammer over invisible touch any day.

You have to take whacko as the whole package. The stage shows, the moonwalk, smooth criminal slanty dance move thing.
Growing up between 7-10yrs old and seeing the natural progression of that stuff was ‘actual’ magic.
Then he went shit and noncey.

PG has a perfect discography. Some of his material even surpasses some Gabriel era Genesis songs, and that is saying a lot.

cool... I do really need to get around to Selling England by the Pound and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway though (still digesting Foxtrot I guess)... but for whatever reason, more interest in jumping in here right now

this was my first peter gabriel/adjacent album and it whipped ass
somehow didnt know solsbury hill was a song of his despite having heard it hundreds of times lol
|

Lamb Lies Down on Broadway used to be my favorite, but I think Foxtrot inched it out by a few hairs, with Nursery Cryme being third just because of that opener

oh this is still the only one ive heard lol i only jammed this today. excited to get to the genesis discog as well his other solo stuff. will keep all that in mind when i dig into genesis

Honestly I'd recommend just listening to everything from Trespass to Lamb Lies Down in release order, since it's often hard to pick a fave out of Gabriel-era Genesis lol. Their debut is worth skipping tho.
As for his solo stuff, I'm also fairly new to it. I heard Melt for the first time today and I really loved it

For me, the best Genesis albums in Gabriel's era are, by this order:
Selling England by the Pound
Foxtrot
Nursery Cryme
The Lamb Lies Down on Broadwa
Trespass
From Genesis to Revelation
All are highlr recommended except From Genesis to Revelation. Not bad but not great too.

I don’t think many people will have Trespass as their number one. Kinda sad since there’s some really good stuff on there

Agreed. Great stuff on it.

Cannot wait for this fellas new album come December.
A double light/dark effort of the stuff that’s been released has massive potential to be a 5.
