Yeah, me too, actually.

judging by everyones negative response to the new hoobastank album, the mx forum is filled with discerning and intelligent music listeners who critically and anaytically view their music. everything that is released isnt necessarily good, hence why we have job interviews and sporting matches, to remove the crap and find the best on show, and this review has done that, well done. :thumb:

I much prefer Good Charlotte, personally.
Wow. That's sad.
You guys are bashing Hoobastank a bit too severely. I don't exactly like them, but they're not THAT bad. Compare them to something like Good Charlotte and they're Godly.
Sure they're not as good as some other bands, but they don't absolutely suck.
Plus some of their older songs are listenable
Exactly. They are not the worst band on earth. I mean, they have more talent than a lot of mainstream bands today, i.e. linkin park.
because the average fan's thought process on hearing something new is, "Ooh! Shiny!"
I like that

Good Charlotte are catchy and have energy. Hoobastank are dreary and repetitive. I'd much rather listen to fun music made by musical ingrates than a bunch of wannabe shoegazers who know a few chord extensions any day.
You dare to call hoobastank repetative fright after talking about GC? That's a laugh...
And here I hold nearly indisputable proof that The Reason is some of the worst trite drivel to come out in the past ten years: My dad likes the song. This is the man who listens to nothing but modern country (you know what I mean, the twangy pop stuff that should be an insult to anyone). The modern country isn't the worst part of this, though, whenever I ride with him (my vehicle was destroyed this summer) and complain about the "music" that's coming on the radio, I get a lecture on how I need to be more musically open-minded. He then proceeds to inform me that all my music is, is machine guns going off while some guy screams. (I listen to just about anything from classical to death metal).
So anyway, family vacation, he's consented to throw the radio on a top 40 station, and The Reason comes on. My brother and I instantly groan and request that the station be changed (hell, I'd rather listen to Toby Keith than this song), and he states, "I like this song. It's pretty." And there you have it, folks. THis is the mentality of the average "music" fan. This is why Mtv still exists, why powerchords now dominate the airwaves, and why any musical progression or deviancy from the norm is dismissed as noise: because the average fan's thought process on hearing something new is, "Ooh! Shiny!"
For the most part i agree with you. However, i think there is also a problem with NOT like music just cause its "shiny". The Reason is overplayed, overrated, and incredibly simple. Not liking it is entirely justified. But disliking just BECUASE it is overplayed and simple is kind of dumb.... I'm not saying you were saying that, i just mean in general.

What i meant is that hoobastank is not repetative compared to good charlotte. Hoobastank actually has a few riffs and stuff, instead of silly punk power chords played as fast as they can play them. Now, if one likes punk, than i guess Good Charlotte is great, but i don't like punk, so...
The Reason is a good song though. First, simplicity is not bad. Second, it sounds good. Third, the lyrics are cheesy, but no matter what people tell you, HUMANS LIKE CHEESE!! If we didn't, there wouldn't be so many cheesy songs.
