This band kinda marks a new trend. The guys basically play deathcore, but with more influences than your typical deathcore fan even knows exist - more bands like that should now emerge, adding deathcore elements to good music.
Oh, and Siren's Song is like one of the top songs in the genre, hands down

Agreed! I only wonder why haven't more bands like these appeared by now. Btw hey man, i don't know if you've listened to my band already, it would be awesome if you gave us a try. I like to think we are going for that kind of sweet junction too (fusing deathcore with other metal subgenres). Look for Elision of Animus if you're interested! Our EP is free to so be at will

Sometimes i find myself listening to this, wondering how can these guys not be worshipped by now, i
mean their songwriting skills are incredible.
The Siren's Song + Fractal Exam Sequence alone are... Perfection.

Well, i still don't see the problem man.. At least i'm not the type that will dismiss a band by their
name. Not when i get the chance to listen to them after someone told me they're cool and i end up
getting this. But yeah ok, i'll give it to you that folks might overlook them for their name.
Ironic name + incredibly mature songwriting tells me these dudes are doing everything right in my
book. m/

Question 6 of their FAQ, found on the band's facebook.
"Why call yourselves Slice the Cake?
Mainly because why not? Originally when we "got together", we were throwing around all these stupid "spr srs" deathcore band names like "Eden In Ruins" and "Gaia Aflame" and stuff of that ilk, but Jonas had put together a placeholder logo (using a font similar to a certain band on Sumerian Records with a fondness for aliens...) that just said "SLICE THE CAKE", and we figured it was a solid option. Plus, band names in this sort of music are getting beyond ridiculous with the amount of near-identical patterns, that soon we're just going to run out of combinations of "metal" sounding words. The logical conclusion is that we'll end up with stuff like "Slice the Cake" and "Toast the Bread", so we ran with it. Oh, and of course, because "it's all about the music, maaaaaan." "
Oh, did i mention they are VERY.GOOD ?
Now listen to them pls :'

Indeed. Generic core names like Elision of Animus and stuff like that lel

Their name is actually in the same vein as "we butter bread with butter" or "iwrestledabearonce", so they bring those bands to mind and failed to stand out even though it was their intention. ironic.
And well, they are pretty good. I mean some of their songs are brilliant. I got overly excited first off, like I usually do. But now that I know the albums a bit better, it becomes apparent that they also have some deffkoar chug filler on in there. But they are really, really good overall and have wicked potential.
Not to mention that they freely call themselves deathcore. Shows the maturity and levelheadedness, seeing how all those other crappy deathcore bands flip out when you call them deathcore just because they feel insecure about playing in a hated genre. But lately there's been a shift and bands seem to rightfully accept the label. STC plays something much, much more than just deathcore, though.
