It's funny, your criticisms for this are my exact ones for Diamond Eyes (although I dislike the production on that one too)

about time somebody wrote a review pointing out how uneventful this is.
all these circle jerk hi fiving comments are insulting to WP

Ugh, yes, thank you. This whole record is just Deftones going through the motions.

This review nailed it. Too bad it's going to get buried alive by raging Deftones fanboys.

Lol, seriously though, I geniunely do think so, In fact i'm having a hard time understanding why would anyone not think that this is their best work.
This is them trying to perfect the formula that has worked for them for years, and I don't see how it fails.

i mean i wouldn't even expect this kind of hype spooge fest from a new tool album. which is probably coming sooner or later.
i guess im just too old. all this repeated self stimulation must be because all these people are of that age where they like to jerk off all the time and then want to also have a real connection to some music and they were too young to jerk off when wp came out. but i mean diamond eyes was like 2 years ago, and this really isn't any better than that shit sausage snack of an album. its basically DE pt II and nobody with any real taste in music asked for that.

Compelling arguments, I must say.

Been a fan of Deftones since 1995, and I have been following them ever since. And to me, they got better after White Pony. White Pony was transitional album, but I thought they have continually improved since then. With this album and Diamond Eyes I hear rejuvenation within the band ten-fold. Improved their songwriting skills, the production improved, and you can tell they enjoy playing together. I dug Saturday Night Wrist a lot, but you could tell it was forced and there was turmoil. These two records sound like a band that have found themselves again. I don't get the White Pony is their best record, their most transitional album as a band, yes, but I think they have improved since then. I dug Self-Titled way more myself.

Best review I've read for this, because it's so well written and not just because I agree with it. This is a pretty underwhelming album for me (a big Deftones fan) but I'm hoping it's just a grower. With that said, I was already starting to really love Diamond Eyes by this point.

Great review.
That being said, I disagree with most of it. I actually found this to be their most interesting album since White Pony. Songs like Entombed, Tempest, and Rosemary I found to be invigorating, especially Rosemary.
And I don't understand the beef with Chino's vox, guys. He sounds better than ever in my opinion.
