i played the original castlevania on NES and loved it just didn't know they wre called Belmonts :P

Yeah, I don't think they went much into back story on the older NES/SNES games. I've mostly played the newer ones where they put more into the plot. Plus I have a few friends that are somewhat obsessed with the series, so I knew quite a bit about them before I even played one.
