Whiskey, if you want to hear more of Zacky, give Sounding The Seventh Trumpet a listen. Except for the intro track, it's all Vengeance on guitar.
My my, M Shadow's screaming is just painful to listen to, and his singing isn't up to much here either. City of Evil trumps this considerably, I think.
Hm.. Shadow's clean vocals on Waking the Fallen shit all over his City of Evil vocals IMO. To each his own I guess.

All sorts...
Atreyu
Incubus
Alter Bridge
Rancid
Chili Peppers
InMe
Fightstar
My taste varies, I tend to like most things, but it's this one band I really can't get into.

Mehh, I think they are fine musically. Synyster plays mind blowing solos, (Second Heartbeat), Zacky and him harmonize almost every song, Shadows had a pretty strong voice clean, Johhny Christ isn't heard though. The Rev does some of his best drums on here, Chapter Four. Hey still have the orchestral pieces like on CoE, they just aren't as noticable on here.

It's easy but at the same time innovative, like Iron Maiden riffs. except for the solos, theyre pretty sick.

i agree...yes, sickly...wicked guitar solos...lol

This albums a bit wierd in that I shouldn't like it as much as I do. The riffs on paper are metal by numbers (Dropped D, D-minor, chugging) and yet I never get tired of them. The drumming varies between straight basic beats and double bass, but I love it....
What really distinguishes this album for me above all else though is Shadows vocals. I love the man as a singer. The two big famous songs from this album (Unholy Confessions and Chapter Four) demonstrate perfect transitions between screaming and singing and I Won't See You Tonight Part 1 is fantastic for sheer power.

This isn't easy to play, try learning the solo to Second Heartbeat, or to Chapter Four, or Eternal Rest.

Dude...the riffs are easy....the solos are a different story

I just picked this album up, I was very impressed with it. I had heard bad things about pre COE and I wanted to hear for myself. I actually love this album dispite the rest of my friends. The only thing I didn't like was his screaming. Clean vocals were great. I actually liked the clean vocals on this album than all the vocals on COE.

I liked the clean vocals on this album, but I prefer either a higher voice like Bruce Dickinson/Rob Halford or a James Hetfield/Dave Mustaine kind of vocal. These were good though.

Bruce, Rob, James, or Dave couldn't possibly sing to A7X, it would be completely against their style, even though they have better voices than shadows

"...I don't get the hate with Shadows vocals in general, but meh, to each his own."
Well, dont get me wrong. I played the shit out of COE. It was just my first impression on his vocals on that album and they grew on me. It was like at first with Dark Tranquillity to me, and now they're one of my favorite brands.
