I've never been let down by As I Lay Dying and didn't think it would happen given how awesome Powerless Rise was. But this isn't good. This sounds like All That Remains with those passionless cleans everywhere and the thrash influence is so less prevalent, a real bummer because I couldn't wait to see where they went with it after Powerless Rise.

I haven't really worked out where this fits in to be honest. Shadows Are Security will always be their best effort. Still, this has some good, catchy songs on it. Greater Foundation, Overcome, Defender are all great tunes.

The direction As I Lay Dying have pushed musically doesn't matter. The bottom line is the songwriting
is weaker this time around.

The Powerless Rise remains their best imo, but I still really like this. I certainly hope that their best days aren't behind them, I really enjoy their stuff and would love to see them outdo themselves at least one more time.
