First of all the overall rating is too high.Secondly Silje is a fantastic singer but not a goddess like Anneke.Experimenting and stuff is the essense of progress in music and in life but...COME ON where are the fucking guitars???Last but not least West pole is really better than this.
Ps:their next album will be a turning point (at least for me as their dedicated listener...)
Ps2:I totally with TheNotrap

open-mindedness in action

I am not open-minded because i like one of my favorite bands to use more edgy and heavier riffs than on this album?
And because you provoke me they are experimenting the same paths like before, only with less inspiration and success.

Unless whatever they've done instead (haven't heard it yet, have preordered cd and am waiting) isn't any good, kinda

Believe me man their previous work is mind blowing!
Not to mention their old singer...
Give them a chance and you will never regret it, for sure.
Here in Greece are very popular as they should be, cause this band kicks serious ass in many ways.

"COME ON where are the fucking guitars???"
I suppose you didn't like Souvenires and Home too, right?"
Mandylion and Nighttime Birds are my fav TG records, but they still rule hard, with or without guitars and Anneke .

I wouldn't characterize it as exciting either, but it is plenty interesting.

Anneke is my favorite (living) vocalist, but "Home" sounded like a band going in two different directions, and it's a good thing she left. 'Sides, Silje isn't far behind. I love both West Pole and Disclosure. They're definitely not a metal band, but there's no other band like 'em.
I can understand why some people don't like the newer stuff, but those who wish the Silje albums were "heavier", what do you think of the Agua de Annique albums? I like them, but edgy they ain't.

sweet dude have you heard epicloud yet

I think both The West Pole and Air were not necessarily bad albums, but far from what The Gathering has managed to do in the past. However this one and Everything is Changing show each part at their best.
It sucks Anneke will never be back, and can't help to think how even better Disclosure would be with her on the mic, but they're fine now.

I prefer Addicted to Epicloud, but it's OK. Her solo stuff is good, but I much prefer The Gathering's new music to hers--Rene has become great at combining effects that "sound good". I think Anneke's more interesting vocals show up on other people's albums--she's great on Townsend's albums and Giant Squid's "Ichthyologist".

Rene is a damn underrated guitarrist. Sure he prolly can't shred like Malmsteen (he prolly doesn't even care about shredding), but he's really creative.
